Altar of the Fatherland

The National Monument to Vittorio Emanuele II (better known as the Vittoriano) is a national monument of Rome, located in the Piazza Venezia. The monument is often mistakenly identified with the Altare della Patria, which in reality is only a part, equally wrongly, his name might lead one to think that it is a tribute to the victory: in fact the term Victorian comes from the name of Victor Emmanuel II of Savoy, the first King of Italy, where the monument is dedicated.
